The overall objective of Estonian family policy is to ensure the best possible quality of life for children and families with children.  The Ministry of Social Affairs began to coordinate the national family policy in June 2007 when the responsibility for family policy was assigned to the Minister of Social Affairs.

The Ministry’s priorities in developing the family policy include reconciliation of work and family life, and parent education.

With regard to children and family life the Ministry of Social Affairs coordinates issues related to employment, health and social areas. Furthermore, the Ministry coordinates the development of policies concerning children’s rights and child protection, and manages international adoption.
