Work-related illness

Work-related illnesses are occupational illnesses and diseases or illnesses and diseases caused by work.

Occupational illnesses and diseases

An occupational illness or disease is one which is caused by a working environment risk factor or a type of work included on the list of occupational illnesses and diseases. Such an illness or disease can only be diagnosed by an occupational health doctor. In order to diagnose such illnesses and diseases, occupational health doctors must familiarise themselves with the current or previous working conditions of the employee. In order to do this, they examine the workplace and study the risk analysis, health check and other necessary information related to the employee and the workplace. So as to prevent occupational illnesses and diseases (and illnesses and diseased caused by work), a risk analysis must be carried out in a company to identify the risk factors of the working environment and measures must be adopted to minimise the risk that these factors present.

Illnesses and diseases caused by work

An illness or disease caused by work is an illness or disease caused by a risk factor of the working environment which is not considered to be an occupational illness or disease. Illnesses and diseases caused by work are diagnosed by occupational health doctors.
